Melgga (b. 1995, Rio de Janeiro) employs various artistic mediums—such as performance art, audiovisual work, and visual arts—as a form of resistance rooted in their ancestry. Their work aims to raise awareness about combating modern forms of oppression and enslavement, while also fostering empowerment, healing, and ethnic-racial acceptance. They have participated in exhibitions such as A invenção do “eu” artista (Atelier Organi.co), Festival em mi balcón, Anamnesis (UFF), Dimensões variadas (Macquinho), Minhoca (Espaço Poético Titocar), Glória 1, 2 e Inferninho (xowrumi/capacete), and Estou Viva (Hélio Oiticica). Currently, Melgga is a member of the xow.rumi/capacete collective and is pursuing a Master’s degree in the Graduate Program in Contemporary Art Studies (PPGAC) at the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), researching ritualistic performance as a process of healing and struggle within contemporary art.
